Quails

Quails are graceful, colorful, and fascinating in their behavior. Let yourself be enchanted by these small gallinaceous birds in your own natural garden aviary. This book offers a wealth of practical information on keeping, using, breeding, and the color varieties of these ornamental birds. Background knowledge and proven instructions drawn from the authors' many years of experience will further help you to successfully and enjoyably care for quails. Detailed profiles include: Chinese Painted Quail, Japanese Quail, European Quail, Harlequin Quail, Button Quail, as well as the toothed quails: Montezum Quail, California Quail, and the Virginia Quail.

Friedel Bernhardt

At the age of 12, Friedel Bernhardt bred his first homing pigeons, canaries, and rabbits. After completing his vocational training, starting a family, and spending eight years abroad, he revived bird breeding in 1999 as preparation for retirement and built his first garden aviary. He now breeds birds with great enjoyment in three aviaries. He has been a member of the AZ (Association for Species Conservation, Bird Keeping, and Bird Breeding) since 2001.

Armin Kühne

Armin Kühne began breeding pedigree poultry in the broadest sense at the age of ten, including ornamental waterfowl, livebearing toothcarps, and quail. He has been breeding the latter since 1978, currently in eight varieties and numerous color variations. For all animal groups (except ornamental waterfowl), genetic questions have always been paramount for him, and with quail, specifically the search for species-appropriate husbandry and feeding, as well as research into the inheritance of the various color variations in Japanese quail, Chinese painted quail, and Virginia quail. His agricultural studies greatly facilitated his research into these issues.
