Barn swallows build their nests inside stables, barns, warehouses, archways, or garages. Therefore, if you see swallows nesting inside buildings, they are very likely barn swallows. It is important that the birds have access at all times during the breeding season (e.g., a tilted window, ventilation pipe, or open stable door). The highly territorial barn swallow returns to its nesting site every year from its winter quarters and typically raises several broods annually.

This nesting box is hung individually. Although barn swallows are a sociable species, the nests should not be hung directly next to each other, but rather approximately 1 meter apart.

Material: Incubation bowl made of breathable wood concrete and baseboard made of formaldehyde-free chipboard.

Hanging height:

Distance from the top edge of the nest to the ceiling at least 6 cm.

Hanging location:

Inside buildings of all kinds, including hallways, animal stalls, barns, sewage treatment plants, etc. Free entry through open windows and hatches must always be ensured.

Stay in Central Europe:

Arrival at the end of March to April, departure at the end of July to the beginning of October.

Distribution: Europe, Asia, North Africa, North America. Only small gaps in its distribution in Europe. Regularly breeds up to 1,500 m above sea level.

Breeding season:

Egg laying from the end of April to mid-July. Regularly two, exceptionally three broods per year.
