These ceramic bulbs emit no light, only heat. The advantage is that the animals learn a natural day-night rhythm.
Because the animals rest at the same time, they disturb each other less and there is less mutual pecking.
The lamps are more energy-efficient than conventional red light lamps.
Did you know?
According to Swiss animal welfare law, chicks may only have continuous light until their third day of life; after that, only a maximum of 16 hours. During the other 8 hours, the chicks should be kept in complete darkness, including no red light.
Suspension:
The bulbs can be screwed into either a suitable metal protective cage or a matching porcelain socket. The lamp body gets very hot, and conventional plastic sockets would melt. The distance to the floor depends on various factors. It's best to start with a distance of 60 cm and, after 30 minutes (when the lamp is completely warm), measure the temperature at the base. This should be approximately 37°C.
Hang the lamp so that you can easily adjust the height.
How many watts do I need?
A question we get asked all the time. Well, that depends on how much volume I need to heat and how cold the ambient temperature is.
A closed chick brooder during mild spring weather is easier to heat than an entire barn in sub-zero temperatures.
Most of our customers are satisfied with 100-150 watts.
