What's the deal with this oregano?
Proud owners of poultry have surely noticed that oregano is repeatedly recommended as a feed supplement.
We are often asked if the eggs taste better if the chickens peck at oregano!?
No, unfortunately not, but then why add oregano?
Oregano is comparable to a natural antibiotic. It has antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antifungal properties, thus giving a boost to our chickens' immune systems.
If you have oregano in your garden, you can of course feed it fresh; otherwise, you can mix well-dried, crumbled or finely chopped leaves into the feed.
Another advantage is that it smells very delicious when you enter the stable.
If stored properly (dry, e.g. in cookie tins), the dried herbs will keep for a good 6 months and lose very few nutrients.
This is not a medicine. Administer only in small amounts.
