Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is the sodium salt of glutamic acid, produced by a chemical reaction between glutamic acid and sodium carbonate or sodium hydroxide. It has the property of enhancing the taste of salty foods in particular and is therefore approved as a flavor enhancer. MSG is found in soups, sauces, seasonings, ready-made meals, meat products, vegetable products, and snack foods, among other things.
- May contain traces of mustard, celery and gluten.
