As a result of our landscape being cleared of vegetation, our barn and house martins can no longer find suitable building material for their nests. Because house facades and interiors are often too smooth, and the quality of the mud the swallows can still collect has deteriorated significantly, the nests break off prematurely, sometimes even when they contain young. In many places, the vibrations from passing truck traffic are also to blame for the premature demise of nests. In large regions, entire swallow populations depend on artificial nesting aids. Swallows are considered harbingers of good luck. Their diet consists of flying insects such as swarming aphids, crane flies, mosquitoes, and flies, which they prefer to hunt in the immediate vicinity of their nesting sites.

Installation:
Under eaves and always on the exterior walls of buildings. House martins never nest inside buildings. Please ensure they nest on the side of the building sheltered from the prevailing weather.
Cleaning & inspection:
Usable for years without mandatory cleaning. However, it is recommended to check the nests more frequently and clean them if necessary. The nest trays can be removed individually for cleaning; this is easily possible even after many years.
