Description
Wedge box, sill box for swifts
The common swift is now threatened with extinction in our towns and cities. This bird species occupies niches and cavities in a wide variety of buildings. Building renovations or new construction often destroy, block, or at least render these spaces uninhabitable.
Installation:
Minimum height below the entrance: 6 to 7 meters above ground level. Please ensure unobstructed access for takeoff and landing. Installing several nesting boxes to encourage colony formation is advantageous.
Suitable mounting locations: On exterior facades or near the roof of buildings of all kinds, e.g. on residential buildings, industrial buildings, churches, road structures, walls or even rock faces.
Installation inside the building (e.g., in the eaves or roof area). The box is attached to the inside of the building using the supplied brackets; the swift can enter the box through existing ventilation openings or appropriately drilled building openings.
Installation on the outside of the building:
For example, on flat roofs or under eaves. The box is attached to the parapet, for example; the drop-off is directly below the entrance.
Cleaning & inspection:
Access is very easy when needed by opening the back of the box. Cleaning is generally not necessary when occupied by swifts.
