Description
Insect nesting block, sand yellow
made of wood concrete
Most hymenopteran species that nest in cavities do not bore their own holes. Instead, they use existing boreholes in which they build their brood cells. These boreholes are created by certain beetles through their feeding activity.
Since natural nesting sites are lacking in our cultivated or cleared landscapes, every nature lover should make it a priority to hang up insect nesting aids. There are hardly any rules for installing these aids, but a sunny, sheltered location protected from wind and rain should be chosen.
Installation:
Garden arbors, pergolas, walls, gardens, and even balconies, up to the third or fourth floor. Nesting aids must also be provided in winter.
Stay outside, otherwise the insects in the holes will hatch prematurely from the nest and perish.
Cleaning & inspection: Not necessary
Residents:
Hymenopterans such as: wild bees, digger wasps, potter wasps and spider wasps (not social wasp species, such as the German wasp or the common wasp).
