Cold-ground ginger 150g

The jungle "root" ensures a long life.

The daily consumption of ginger promises a long life, as the famous Chinese religious founder Confucius said as early as 500 BC. Today, ginger is well-established in medicine, but it is also becoming increasingly popular as a spice.

Origin:
The ginger plant comes from the tropical jungles of South and Central Asia.

Today, ginger is cultivated on plantations in all tropical regions. Since the early Middle Ages, ginger has steadily risen in popularity as both a spice and a medicinal remedy. Characteristics and Cultivation: The ginger plant can grow up to one meter tall. It has a reed-like appearance. Not only the flowers and leaves are used, but also the rhizome, the botanically correct term for the "ginger root." When harvested, ginger is dark green or black. Only through careful peeling or bleaching does it acquire its familiar light color. The ginger is then subsequently dried.

Aroma and use:
Ginger is characterized by its fiery, spicy flavor. Essential oils and gingerols, the pungent compounds, are crucial for the aroma of the starchy root rhizomes.

Sometimes ginger has a slightly bitter note. Depending on its origin, it is perceived with a more or less pronounced lemon note. Ginger is most commonly used in Far Eastern cuisine. It goes wonderfully with curries and stews, but also adds a special touch to poultry, lamb, fish, and seafood. In ground form, ginger also enhances gingerbread, rice pudding, fruit salad, and other desserts.

Medicine:
Ginger is considered a particularly stomach-friendly spice.

In herbal medicine, ginger is said to possess truly incredible powers. It is considered a life elixir par excellence. Its effect is based on ginger's ability to activate the salivary glands. This has a positive effect on the intestinal muscles. In the form of tea (simply steep ginger slices in hot water for a few minutes), ginger is used for stomach problems. It promotes digestion and has an antispasmodic effect. Ginger tea also provides valuable relief from rheumatism, muscle pain, and colds.

Tip:
Ginger is a real insider tip for nausea, seasickness, and travel sickness. Simply cut a thin slice from a ginger root and chew on it. It works. Ginger also provides relief from menstrual cramps. However, ginger should not be used by people with gallstones.
