Especially during the nest-founding period, adverse factors such as bad weather, food shortages, or the lack of suitable nesting sites can overwhelm the young hornet queen in finding and keeping her nest dry, safe, and warm. The SCHWEGLER Hornet Starter Cave can help!
Based on the latest findings in hornet conservation, it offers ideal climatic and spatial conditions for the young colony. The unique, patent-pending entrance minimizes contamination by birds, bats, and mammals. The SCHWEGLER Hornet Starter Cave is suitable for the beginning of a nest and as a shelter for smaller or late-emerging wasp or hornet colonies. With favorable colony growth, branch colonies will form or relocate to a larger site once a certain size is reached. We recommend our SCHWEGLER Hornet Box (Order No. FS00 360/7) for this purpose. Generally, the use of the Starter Cave in combination with the SCHWEGLER Hornet Box is always advisable.
Installation:
A minimum height of 1.5 meters is recommended; sunny locations are preferred. To increase acceptance, please ensure that the approach area is not heavily frequented by people. For optimal population development, the distance to the larger SCHWEGLER hornet box should generally be approximately 10 to 50 meters (this can vary depending on the surroundings).
