How many laying nests for chickens?

  • Inner nest: Width 28 cm, Height 25 cm, Depth 38 cm.

  • 3-piece top section (outer): Height 74 cm, Width 95 cm, Depth 41 cm
  • 3-piece middle section (outer): Height 46 cm, Width 95 cm, Depth 41 cm
  • 3-piece base unit (outer): Height 56 cm, Width 95 cm, Depth 41 cm

  • Plastic nesting mat Europe

The fact that this roll-away nest has been delighting the entire chicken world for years without any changes has its reason:

When the hen enters the nest, the door closes thanks to a very simple mechanism. The hen can then lay her egg undisturbed, protected from the elements, and the egg rolls gently into the drawer beneath the nest. The hen can leave the nest again at any time.

  • The eggs stay clean, even in winter when the outdoor enclosure is muddy.
  • The eggs cannot be pecked.
  • The eggs are not crushed.

Our tip:

Chickens prefer to sleep at the highest point at night and therefore produce the most droppings. When setting up the coop, ensure that the roosting bar is higher than the landing perch of the nesting box, or fold the landing perch up in the evening to keep the nest clean. Should the coconut mats become unsightly over time, you can also purchase replacements.

Did you know?

Chickens instinctively want to hide their eggs. Therefore, they prefer that no direct sunlight shines into the nesting box. Do not place it directly opposite a door or window.

Chickens prefer to lay their eggs where other chickens lay. When young hens are first introduced, place a plaster egg in the nesting box. This will encourage them to lay their eggs there, rather than just anywhere in the coop or run.

If the hens have trouble with the nest at first, you can let them out later in the morning. Chickens usually lay their eggs in the morning, so if you only let them outside around 10:00 a.m., they will have already laid their eggs and won't be able to hide them in the enclosure.
