Description
Infrared dark radiator, Elstein brand
The heat lamp for raising chicks without red light
These infrared dark radiators emit no light, only heat, thus allowing the chicks a dark period at night in which they can rest.
Because of the heat they generate, these dark radiators are mounted either in a ceramic socket or a protective cage in the chick coop. The ideal temperature for chicks is between 31 and 32°C for the first few days and is then gradually reduced, with a rule of thumb being 2 degrees per week of life.
The strength they choose depends, among other things, on the volume of their barn.

Swiss animal welfare law states that chicks from the 3rd day of life may only have light for 16 hours, meaning at least 8 hours of complete darkness.
This means that the use of conventional infrared bulbs is no longer permitted after the 3rd day of life, at least not around the clock.
Elstein dark radiators are the alternative. The white-glazed ceramic body emits only heat.
