Treecreepers prefer nesting cavities that are in contact with the tree trunk, especially those with rough bark, such as oaks, alders, poplars, pines, pear trees, and apple trees. Therefore, our treecreeper nest boxes are designed as half-shells, open towards the trunk. The birds also use their tweezer-like beaks to search for insects like spiders and beetles in the crevices of the bark.
The opposing entry slots ensure optimal protection against cats and martens.
Installation:
The tree trunk on which the nesting box is hung should have a diameter of approximately 25 to 30 cm.
This type of cave, with a slightly smaller brood chamber diameter and a greater brood chamber height than type 2 B, is designed to fold completely away from the tree trunk.
The cave is placed on the included, half-driven aluminum nail and additionally secured around the tree trunk with binding wire. A sealing lip on the top edge presses into the rough bark of the tree, preventing water from entering the cave.
Cleaning and inspection:
Cleaning and inspection by loosening the tension wire and removing the cave.
