Native dormouse species are now severely threatened. The widespread destruction of open, natural forests with their relatively high proportion of old-growth trees deprives them of their suitable habitat. This leads to the loss of these vital species, crucial for maintaining ecological balance. Dormice are excellent climbers and are typically crepuscular and nocturnal.
