The measurement is based on the density principle. This involves using sinking scales that are carefully immersed in the distillate until they float freely. Sinking scales are available for coarse and fine measurements.
The required measuring or leveling cylinders depend on the length of the spindle.
Application : Carefully immerse the hydrometer in a 100 ml measuring or graduated cylinder containing the distillate until it floats freely. Read the value in volume percent (%Vol) on the scale at the point where the liquid intersects the hydrometer.
